Weekly President’s Report

Hi to all OCTC Members & Supporters

This is the first instalment of my “Weekly President’s Report”, with the launch of our new website I thought it important to give a weekly overview of everything that is happening within OCTC, and let me tell you there is no shortage of content.

I will ask forgiveness now for-:

  • Missing a week, life sometimes gets in the way!  In my absence I will try to arrange a guest contributor.
  • Missing an event, name, etc.  Remember, you too can contribute by sending an email to octc@octc.org.au
  • Being overly biased and parochial, particularly in relation to interclub and club championships.  We aim for no less than total domination!

INTERCLUB

The opening round of the Central West Interclub series was held in Cowra on Sunday 11 October 2015.  Thank you to everyone that travelled to Cowra and represented OCTC, per my message from last week, we are determined to regain the interclub trophy.  We thank Cowra for hosting a great day, they are a club on the rise and will be a real force in years to come.

What a dominant start to the series, provisional points score after the weekend is as follows-:

  • Orange                 329
  • Cowra                   100
  • Bathurst               37
  • Dubbo                  28
  • Mudgee               0

(Handicap system to be applied)

OCTC dominated all age group placings, and a special mention to Janet Martin the first female overall.  To defend their title Mudgee are using the unusual tactic of not attending the first race of the series, interesting!!!

KONA

Kim Dale & Jess Richards competed at the World Ironman Championships (KONA) in Hawaii on Sunday 11 October 2015.  Just to qualify for this event is an unbelievable achievement, and both ladies were outstanding.  The conditions were extremely tough with high temperatures and high humidity, a vast contrast to the winter we have just endured here in Orange.  Jess completed the course in 10:57:14 placing 17th in her division, Kim completed the course in 11:56:37 placing 48th in her division.  Please make sure you congratulate Kim and Jess when you see them.

WORLD DUATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Adelaide is the venue this weekend for the World Duathlon Championships.  OCTC will be represented by 24 athletes, yes that’s correct 24 “Piranha’s” qualified for the Australian team.  We wish our club mates every success, travel safe and looking forward to the stories on your return.

WRAS

Orientation was held for 10 “OCTC Guppies” on Sunday 10 October 2015.  We wish all every success and look forward to watching your growth.  A full report is available at www.octc.org.au from Mel Ashton-Garard.

CLUB DUATHLON

At a local level we have our second club Duathlon for the season this Sunday 18 October 2015.  The weather is improving all the time and this is a great opportunity to get a race in before our first triathlon in only 3 weeks when we start keeping score.

25 Years of OCTC

This year marks 25 years of affiliation for OCTC.  We acknowledge those that have come before us and built the club, we feel honoured to care take this great club in the present and look forward to a bright future and the next 25 years.  Happy anniversary.

TRAINING TIP OF THE WEEK

When doing your kicking drills at swimming, your big toes should touch, this creates a hydrofoil effect giving you greater drive through the water.

NSW CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

Don’t forget to save the date, Saturday 2 April 2015.  Forster is the destination for all “Piranha’s”, our first serious attempt at the NSW Club Championships.  See you there.

Wishing all “Piranha’s” every success where ever you are racing.  Race hard, fair and with OCTC pride.

Cheers,

MICHAEL LOCKYER
