No charge for these races, unless you are not a Triathlon Australia member in which case you will need to purchase a day license for $10.

Unfortunately we are without Steve’s sophisticated timing system for this race and it will be timed the old fashion way with body marking, a stopwatch and will record an overall time.

Everyone who wishes to race will need to present themselves to the Registration area, nominate their event and receive body number marking.

If you want to time your race and splits remember to bring your own watch.

For all members racing please also check out the important race safety consideration below.

We also need a few more volunteers, not only because its one of the club biggest races of the year but due to timing requirements.

Please let us know asap if you (or your family – if you intend to race) are able to help out on the day and what position you/they would be willing to volunteer for.

Reply via email to eitheroctc@octc.org.au or call Megan on 0403 200 342

The positions we need volunteers for are as follows.

Note – some of our regular volunteers who have been helping out whilst injured are ready to race again and will  be unable to help out in these roles this weekend.

If we don’t receive enough volunteers we will be nominating people on the day to ensure the race goes ahead safely.

Pre Race – 7:30 am start till race time

Signs – Place road signs out before the race (and collect after the race)

Transition Setup – bring gear down from shed and setup transition area – need at least 4 people

Registration – record names for each event, collect day licence money if necessary, allocated number and do body marking – may need 3 people for this job on sunday

During the Race

Timing – one person to record people as they come over the line and one person  – to help call out numbers as people cross

Transition Marshall – need one person in/around transition area to direct traffic and ensure safety with the area. Another one or two required at the bike mount and dismount line if available.

Road Marshalls – 3 – one at each the lake entrance, canobolas road turnaround and tea house turnaround to ensure safety/provide direction and warn cyclists of vehicles

Cooks and Food Handlers – 2 or 3 – to hand out iceblocks and fruit, cook BBQ meat for the end of the senior races.

Drink Station – family or individuls to man the drink station outside of transition, half fill cups of water and offer to runners as they come past and collect used cups and bin them.

After the Race

Packup Transition and all the gear – as many hands as possible to pack up after the race. Usually these positions are filled easily.

Sign Packup – the same person who put out the signs pre race will be required to collect them

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ALL THE VOLUNTEERS – LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ALL OUT THERE ON SUNDAY

IMPORTANT RACE SAFETY CONSIDERATION FOR ALL RACING MEMBERS

There is currently a voluntary recall on the Specialized shiv bikes built between 2012 and 2015 as there is a problem with the aero bars that may impact the safety of members, other participants and road users. Please find following a copy of the recall notice from Specialized and the response from Triathlon Australia to make you aware of the risks that may be associated with the use of the bikes and/or being invloved in an event where the bikes may be used. This will mainly affect the senior members who own specialized shivs and club members who are riding at training or in events with anyone using a specialized shiv bike.

This notice is to advise of the potential risks and the advice given by Specialized and Triathlon Australia – it will also be covered in the race briefing on sunday. Essentially this event (and other events that have been held since the recall) will be a RIDE AT OWN RISK situation. It is unknown how many bikes have the potential problem but all shivs will be fixed once the resolution is rolled out. This recall issue may affect a number of training and race events in the near future.

Important Information for all Club Presidents re: SHIV bike recall
You will be aware of the current recall by Specialized of SHIV bicycles manufactured between 2012 and 2015.   You will find a link to Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC) website HERE.   The advice to consumers from the ACCC is: “What should consumers do? Consumer should stop using the Aerobars. An approved solution is being finalised and parts will be available shortly. For further information consumers can contact infoau@specialized.com”     You will also be aware that as a consequence of being affiliated with Triathlon Australia, you may access the public liability policies put in place by Triathlon Australia to provide insurance protection for members, participants, volunteers and all workers in the event environment, members in the training environment, and committee members of affiliated clubs.   We have consulted with the Brokers that provide the sports Public Liability Insurance to seek an understanding of the consequences of the recall notice in the event that there is an incident that causes damage or injury to property or person(s) as a result of an accident involving a bicycle subject to the above recall notice at a sanctioned race or organised club event, such as training ride.   We have been advised that should there be an incident involving a SHIV bicycle and a claim is made against a Race Director, Club or other affiliated organisation that has access to the TA Policies, the policies will respond to protect Race Directors, Club Committees and others responsible for the conduct of the events or activities.   The Triathlon NSW legal advice is that the Association does not have the power to impound bikes or stop them from being used at events.  However we are communicating with our members to advise them of the recall that may impact on the safety of members and other participants and road users.   Our recommendation is to follow the advice of the manufacturer and the ACCC and NOT RIDE the bikes subject to the recall until the issue on their bike is resolved.   I trust this provides clarity to the questions that are being raised from clubs and event organisers as a result of the recall of one of the most popular triathlon specific bikes used in events across the country.   Phil Dally Chief Executive Officer Triathlon NSW Limited
