Kurnell Tri NSW Sprint Series – Juniors Report

Congratulations to the Orange Piranhas who raced at Kurnell on Saturday. We loved the following report (written by Cennedi Dally) that we thought we’d share it!

The Orange Triple Threat Triathlon team competed in the Tri NSW Sprint Series – Kurnell. We had an early morning start of 5:00 am to get a parking spot, set up transition and race briefing for an 8:00 am race start. It was long walk to the start line where the women’s wave began 3 minutes before the men’s. The fastest time in the 300m swim overall was 3:09 set by Tristan Harrison (coach) and Kaitlyn Hinrichsen creating a tie in our group.

Transition 1 began by running out of the water and all the way to the bike leg for 1km. Tim Robinson came out of T1 with a fantastic time of 3:48. During the ride Lily Logan finished with a smashing time of 20:15 almost a minute ahead of Lachlan Ross. Cennedi Dally just under a minute behind Lachie, time 22:14 with half the bike course in a strong headwind.

With an inter-group competition for Transition 2 was interesting. Brittany Boswell hitting it out of the park by placing 1st in T2 with a time of 0:57 just four seconds in front of her coach. Emelia Riley and Amy Robinson also did well in T2 just a second between them in their times, 1:05 and 1:06 Amy in the lead.

In the first 300m of the run leg, Lachlan Ross made his time 1:31 an Tristan 1:34 just 3 seconds split them apart. The run leg was a breeze for our Clare Mansfield running a 9.41 flying through the course. Emily Palmer received a huge cheer while coming down the finish straight to the line by all her teammates running a 13:51 and ready to do a second lap of the trail. Amongst these number were flying bikes and cleat shoes, swallowing salty water and a whole lot of fun.

Special mention to Kaitlyn, Tim and Tristan for winning their age divisions, finishing 2nd, 4th and 6th in their respective genders overall.

The team ended the day with an open water training session, with Triathlon NSW Talent Development Clinic. They learnt how to porpoise, sight and leap over water. Swimming another hour in the rain and surf. It was a great experience and very enjoyable event.

Also congrats to Connor Whiteley who finished 10th overall in the Sprint and 4th in his age group.

Well done Piranhas!!
