Where are Orange events this season?

All events are at Gosling Creek Reserve, south of the Orange Hospital and only a few kms out of town.

What do I need to do to be an Age Group winner at Orange Tri Club?

We have age group winners in male and female in 10 year age bands ie Under 19, male and female, 20 – 29 male and female, 30-39 male and female, and so on. Age cutoff is 31 Dec 20XX for season 20XX/YY

These are not awarded automatically – these are the minimum criteria to be considered:

  1. Minimum compete in 4 races in the season whether it is InterClub or home races (excludes duathlon, and Fri night),
  2. Scoring from Club Champs will be on OTC points system. 10 yr age groups continue. Age at 31/12/20XX
  3. Volunteer for home race set up, pack up (ie don’t have to sacrifice your race). At discretion of committee if you meet volunteer criteria

Which Orange Tri Club event should my child do?

This is a common question on race morning at the rego desk, and it is a good one!

As a guide, you should consider how strong your child is in the water, and if in doubt, go shorter than longer for their first race or two.

This guide from Triathlon Australia: Race Competition Rules also shows the  maximum distance you child could do, by age (thanks Mel Ashton-Garard for sharing this).

Age Group Distance Comment
Under 7 100m/1km/500m Non-competitive/novelty
7yo 100m/3km/1km Non-competitive
8yo 100/3km/1km Non-competitive
9yo 100m/3km/1.5km Non-competitive
10yo 200m/6km/1.5km Non-competitive
11yo 200m/6km/1.5km Non-competitive
12yo 300m/10km/2km Competitive
13yo 400m/15km/4km Competitive
14yo 750m/20km/5km Competitive

So if your child is younger than 14 years, they are not able to do a sprint distance triathlon.  The maximum distance for a 13 years old is 400/15/4.

What if I can’t finish a race?

That is fine – it happens to all of us. Please see the rego desk so we know you have not finished – then we are not out looking for you
