Race results from Orange Club Open

A slight morning chill became a glorious day at Lake Canobolas for the Piranhas’ Club Open (formerly known as the Club Champs).

Under the watchful eye of two protective geese, 5 x Enticers and 20 x Sprinters took off just after 8am in excellent conditions for swim / bike / run.

Well done to Abby Dean who won the Women’s Enticer, fresh from her selection in the NSW Junior Girls team for the upcoming Australian Schools Championships. Rory Thornhill just pipped Tom Tudor in the Men’s Enticer, with Will Cornally in third.

In the Sprint, Jess Richards won the Women’s division, ahead of Jessie Dean who was ahead of mum Estelle. In the Men’s, Connor Whiteley made a three-peat with his win, just over school buddy Jack Bilton^.  Dave Selwood continues to get stronger and stronger this season and rounded off the Men’s Sprint podium with third.

At 0930, the Short Internal and Short External races were away. Well done Sophie Martin, Jessie Tudor and Molly Dean for their success in the Girl’s Short External, while Ollie Chandler-Sullivan and Patrick Toberty went 1-2 in the Boy’s Short External.  Only two raced the Short Internal with Harry Dean completing a big day for the Dean family, and Kate Cornally in the Girl’s Short Internal.

Juniors followed and had fun, as did the Midgets, and we were finished by 1030. Thanks Megan Goodwin for the results: VIEW RESULTS HERE.

We welcome the Cornally family who had Will, Kate and Harry race in three different events this morning – we always enjoy meeting new families and a great sprint finish for Harry without a shoe for the last 50m of the Junior race.

Thanks as always to our volunteers, including the Selwood Coaching Team and Matt and Harry Dean on set up, Brian S who led the operation today, Phil T as race director, Megan Goodwin who ran the rego desk and results with Amy and Judy, Prez Mick oversaw the morning, and the many other friends, supporters and parents of our club. Thanks Lynn Simmons on teahouse turnaround and Justin Stent out on course as well.

It was a good final day of racing for the club after the success at the TNSW Club Champs last week. Let’s see as many as we can at Relay for Life on 01/02 Apr, and then at our fun Handicap Day on 09 Apr to wrap up the season. And mark 20 May in your diary for the annual presentation night.
