Break the Ice duathlon this Sunday – the season opener for the Piranhas

Lots on so let’s get into it:

Sun 08 Oct: Break the Ice Duathlon @ Gosling Creek
We’re excited for our season opener this Sunday at Gosling Creek (meet at our tri shed) with our internal duathlons and then ceremonial ‘break the ice’ tradition where we dunk in Gosling Creek to welcome the new season. Yes, it can be a tad fresh in the water in Orange in early October…and we’ve also just had 20mm of rain.

Format:
0800: Set up: (run is on gravel path, bike is on big loop 2.2km)
0900: Super Sprint: Run 1km  / Ride 6.6km (3 big loops)  /  Run 1km (adapt the distance for younger athletes)
0930: Sprint:  Run 3km   / Ride 13.2km (6 big loops)  /  Run 2km
1030: Break the Ice

Pls let us know if you need a loan bike with your estimated bike frame size (or your height in cm) at octc@octc.org.au

We would like people to register here and we will also experiment with a new timing system. If you are big on data pls still bring your watch! This is a free event for our members, and $10 for the supersprint for non members and $20 for the sprint for non members. Now is a good time to become a member of Australia Triathlon and Orange Tri Club by following this link to membership

And new members get an OTC swim cap and towel – they look good at the pool and at events.

Thu 12 Oct: Strength Training for Triathletes @ Orange Family Physiotherapy 6pm
We have a strength training session with accredited Exercise Physiologist Dave Stelling at Orange Family Physiotherapy, 24 William St from 6 – 7pm. This will be part education and part practical, and is a key part of the triathlete toolkit to reduce the chance of injury. We thank our member Erica Eccleston who has lined this up for fellow Piranha members.  Pls email octc@octc.org.au if you will attend so we know numbers for Dave.

Key upcoming dates:

  • Sun 19 Nov is Mudgee Interclub – save the date Pirnahas for an attack on the Red Devils and the other Central West clubs
  • Fri – Sun 24-26 Nov NSW Junior Sprint Championships at Gosling Creek – this is our only fundraising event of the season where proceeds are reinvested in our club – more details to come but we’d love our members and friends to keep 2 hours free over the weekend to help us – like transition set up, marshalling and pack up. Just put in your diaries for now – no other action for you. More details closer to the weekend on how to register to volunteer and the committee are organising now.
