1st club race of 2017 – a great day out at the Lake…

Race report – Sun 22 Jan

Orange Piranhas club race – Lake Canobolas

Lake Canobolas turned on a beautiful morning for the first club race of 2017. Slight breeze and low 20s air temp greeted the Enticer and Sprint athletes at 0805. Recent hot summer weather meant water temp may have the lake at its warmest ever! Great to see a couple of Bathurst friends came over and raced today…always welcome and look forward to seeing you on Thu at your Interclub on Aust Day.

We then had the Short Internal and Short External races at 0940 and both went well. Shout out to our Midgets and Juniors who followed at 1000 and 1015 for some fun in their events.

Results will come on the website later in the week.

A big thank you to the volunteer parents and the folks who gave up racing to ensure smooth races this morn – no injuries reported to St Johns is a good sign!

The switch of race order seemed to work well – we finished two hours earlier than normal. If you didn’t race today cos of holidays, consider coming out on 05 Feb for our next club event as we can get you away a lot earlier! Venue to be determined if the lake again or to Gosling Creek. This will be announced on 01 Feb and so keep your eye on the website and newsletter.

Thanks to Harry Fardell from Orange Physio for his services post race, and as always to Paul Ryan and the bush nippers as our swim marshalls for the longer races, and Maureen and Kim from St Johns Ambulance. Justin from Stent Event took some snaps so check those out – always quality – link will be up in next day or so on how you can purchase those.

Breaking news! For those racing at Bathurst Interclub on Australia Day…Phil and Nic Tudor have kindly offered their home for an Aussie Day lunch after the race. The club will cover all costs, just maybe a gold coin donation (I need to check with our Treasurer!). The Tudors are on Emu Swamp Road – turn right at Lucknow when coming back from Bathurst, and look for the OCTC teardrop flag about 500m or so along Emu Swamp Road.
Pls email octc@octc.org.au by Wed 25 Jan 10am if you are coming – family / friends all welcome as well as those racing – so we know how many steaks and sausages to order.
